  1. Haunting.

The environment did not envelop the building as I anticipated rather the building embraced the environment. The air was balmy almost soaking up the sounds from below which seemed remote broken only by vocal outbursts.Yet there was this tenuous relationship between the two – these sound lines combined with the sounds and physical interruptions we made into the space, wove a loose drawing.

Initial glimpses of ghostly white wings floating above suggested snowy owl and silence but it was the sharp call that defined herring gulls drifting in the darkness. My attention diverted upwards I connected the building to the total soundscape extending the inconstant drawing – or was it a poem? – or both?

We interacted intuitively working together or alone, experimenting, performing or just ‘being’.I think this was the power of the relative silence as night unfolded into day, maybe too the strength of the building – its longevity/its witness to the lives of so many filtered into our experience.Although very different from Antarctica and the rain forests this urban dawn experience had an unexpected aura for me.
